Number of years with Zarraffa’s?

Four years.

When was the store established?

Six years ago.

What is your favourite Zarraffa’s beverage?

I love the Caramelised Caffe Mocha with macadamia syrup – it tastes like a Snickers Bar!

Tell us more about working in your local community:

When Kalgoorlie was hit with a massive storm that cut the power to most of the town, our store still had power, so customers were coming in droves to get coffee! It was such a surreal experience to be serving our locals when some of their homes had been destroyed and they had nowhere to go.

The whole town was in distress but it was a great feeling to be able to serve people and our community during such a difficult time.

We also love giving back to the local community in a number of different ways, and currently sponsor a local softball team, the local Auskick program, and a number of PCYC youth incentive programs. We also offer a Christmas dinner to the homeless in Kalgoorlie.

I love meeting all of the different people who visit our store from all walks of life, and I’m lucky enough to work with my sister Cody and my children, Reivyn and Joseph! You could say coffee was in our blood!

Ralph, Denise and Candice Fioretti, Franchisees

Zarraffa’s Coffee Mango Hill and Carseldine, QLD

What did you do before you joined Zarraffa’s?

We had been working for a building company before we became part of the Zarraffa’s family. Candice (Ralph and Denise’s daughter and franchisee) was working for Hilton Hotels before she moved up to Queensland from South Australia to help open the business in 2009.

Number of years with Zarraffa’s?

2019 will make ten years with the brand!

When was the store established?

Our first store, Carseldine, (which we adore!) is nine years old and our drive thru at Mango Hill is three years old.

What is your favourite Zarraffa’s beverage?

Our favourite drinks are Espressos and strong Caffe Lattes! We love, and have become very accustomed to, the taste of our African Masai blend over the years.

We have been so lucky to create strong friendships and relationships with regular customers over the years.

A highlight for Candice was the lengths she went to after being confided in by a customer that she was pregnant. Candice was told even before our customer had announced it to her husband! It goes to show what coffee means to our customers; it was important that Candice knew to make her regular coffee on decaf – all without her husband becoming suspicious!

These are the moments you hold onto forever. You don’t realise how big a part you play in someone’s life until something like that happens.

We love that the Zarraffa’s brand supports families far and wide. From our small family business here in Queensland, to the work that the company does with the Meru Coffee Co Op and community in Africa. We have also been fortunate enough to partner and support local schools and sporting clubs in the surrounding areas of our stores.

Our most treasured community involvement, one in which we involve all our staff, is our ongoing support of local special needs children. We help to raise funds to supply toys and educational equipment to local schools and holiday programs in our communities.

James Burgess-Liehr, Area Manager

Zarraffa’s Coffee Sunshine Coast, QLD

What did you do before you joined Zarraffa’s?

I ran the front end of a supermarket in New Zealand.

Number of years with Zarraffa’s?

I’m in my eighteenth year!

When was the store established?

Our oldest is the Sunshine Plaza kiosk which opened in 2005, and our newest store in Morayfield opened in November 2017.

What is your favourite Zarraffa’s beverage?

I love a double shot, Tall Americano with a little cold milk.

Tell us more about working in your local community:

I started with Zarraffa’s as a young nineteen year-old looking for some way to pay the bills. I quickly got caught up in (Zarraffa’s Founder) Kenton’s passion and after working in corporate stores, I helped to open the first franchise store.

One of the many good memories I have was when a drive thru customer once paid for the customer behind them as a way to ‘pay it forward’ and do something nice. The recipient of the free coffee burst into tears and later explained that she had been dealing with some personal problems and was beginning to think that there were no good people in the world. A small gesture of a free coffee changed this lady’s outlook and meant more to her than that kind customer will ever know.

I think that the brand has an amazing ‘backyard policy’ of helping those close to us, while also supporting bigger causes.

Locally, we have recently helped to support families and victims of domestic violence have a memorable Christmas, and we also enjoy supporting the Sunshine Coast Police Service with their “Drive to Save Lives’’ mission, by rewarding sober drivers with free coffee over the festive season. On top of this, we are big supporters of our local schools, kid’s clubs and sporting teams, and we recently donated $2,100 to drought-affected farmers who are doing it tough, via the Buy A Bale charity.

Bec Bee, Franchisee

Zarraffa’s Coffee Hervey Bay, QLD

What did you do before you joined Zarraffa’s?

I worked for 23 years with the Gold Coast City Council.

Number of years with Zarraffa’s?

Since the store opened in late 2009.

When was the store established?

Nine years ago.

What is your favourite Zarraffa’s beverage?

I love our Vanilla Caffe Lattes, Crème White Chocolade Fusions and the Mocha Fusions.

Tell us more about working in your local community:

I love the coffee, the culture, and the passion of Zarraffa’s.

We really believe in giving back to our Hervey Bay community. Our store supports a local rehab organisation with monthly gift cards, and we host a ‘Coffee with a Cop’ program, where customers can get to know their local police officers and ask questions or find out more about policing in the area.

We recently worked with the local police for their Christmas Road Safety initiative by providing complimentary coffees to reward sober drivers via breathalyser stations. We also support our local Animal Rescue group and recently our staff donated 2 months’ worth of tips to the Farmers Rural Aid charity!

One of my favourite moments was when some of our regular customers got married and then had to stop by the store for their Zarraffa’s fix before the reception!

We also had a regular older customer whose last wish was to come and have a coffee in store and see our team before he passed, so that was pretty special for all of us too.
