If you are experiencing issues with your machine, we recommend contacting the manufacturer directly. In the meantime, here are a few tips that might save you some time and allow you to enjoy your coffee at home or work sooner.

About Okapi

1. What is an Okapi?

(A) The Okapi (pronounced Oh-cop-ee) is a beautiful and unusual animal and is the only living relative of the Giraffe family.

Like a Giraffe, the Okapi has very large, upright ears and a long, dark, prehensile tongue, while male Okapis display short, hair-covered horns. But the Okapi is most often confused with Zebras because of its unique black and white stripes that are housed on its hindquarters and front legs.

2. Is Okapi a brand of Zarraffa’s Coffee?

(A) We are pleased to introduce Okapi as a sub brand of Zarraffa’s Coffee. Okapi’s first product – capsules – are now available for selected home Nespresso® machines (see compatibility section).

The Blends

1. Which capsule is the same coffee that is served in store?

(A) The Okapi Origin’s Kenyan AA is closest to our house blend, with a similar flavour profile. We are hoping to introduce more blends to our to our range sometime in the near future.

2. How many blends are available?

(A) The Okapi range consists of four capsule blends:

The Okapi Legend is 100% Arabica, which has a smooth chocolaty flavour and hints of nuts and spices, with a clean finish. Just like the mysterious Okapi, this secret blend is waiting to be personally discovered by you.

The Okapi Origin is grown at prime elevation, gently nurtured in the rich volcanic soils and in the glow of the golden African sun. This full bodied, full flavoured bean comes with hints of chocolate, berries and light floral and citrus notes. This AA blend is ideal to have in Espresso form, but also mixes beautifully with milk for an amazing Flat White, Latte or Cappuccino.

Zarraffa’s own Deep Forest coffee is a delightful, light bodied blend with subtle acidity and a fruity, almost wine like profile. Nice and gentle on the palate, Deep Forest is the ideal way to both start and finish your day.

The Black Rhino blend has been created for coffee-lovers who enjoy their flavour big and bold. Both strong and full bodied, the smooth, nutty, almost malty richness carries all the way through to the rich, dark cocoa flavoured finish. Black Rhino is aromatic, spicy, and powerful, just like its namesake.

3. What blend do you suggest for a first-time capsule drinker?

(A) Our Okapi Origin is the perfect start to your coffee journey, and it is the closest to our house blend here at Zarraffa’s. It’s suitable to have in Espresso form, but also mixes beautifully with milk for an amazing Flat White, Latte or Cappuccino.

4. Do you sell any merchandise that will enhance my Capsule drink?

(A) We certainly do. Head into your local Zarraffa’s Coffee store and pick up a bottle of our delicious sauces and syrups, available in your favourite flavour. The perfect addition to your daily coffee.

5. Can I use my Zarraffa’s Z Card® when purchasing Capsules?

(A) Of course! Swipe your Zarraffa’s Z Card® when purchasing Okapi capsules. Once you have saved enough $Z® you can redeem it for your favourite Zarraffa’s Coffee beverage!

Machines

1. Does Zarraffa’s Coffee sell Capsule machines or parts?

(A) Zarraffa’s Coffee is a specialty coffee house, with our aim to produce an individually perfect cup of coffee – every time. Saying this, our focus is on the coffee, leaving the machinery and the equipment to other speciality providers.

2. Where can I purchase a machine from?

(A) Head in store and ask our friendly Baristas for full information. Alternatively please contact our office on (07)55 000 800.

3. What happens if the Capsules don’t work in my machine?

(A) We recommend prior to purchase that you check your capsule machine is compatible with the selected list of Okapi-compatible machines (talk to our friendly staff in store).

4. What machines are Okapi capsules compatible with?

(A) Our Okapi® capsules are compatible with selected specialty coffee capsule machines – please ask your local Zarraffa’s Coffee team for advice about your coffee machine’s compatibility with our Okapi® capsules. We recommend ensuring you are aware of the correct operating procedures and warranty conditions provided by your machine manufacturer before using Okapi® Capsules.

Troubleshooting Advice

1. Nothing is coming out of the machine (no coffee or water).

(A) Here are a couple of tips to try before contacting your machine manufacturer :

• Is the tank is filled with water?
• Check that the tank is situated correctly on the machine
• Is the machine plugged in and turned on?
• Has the machine had the chance to warm up?

2. Why is the coffee not warm enough?

(A) Usually the cup is too cold for the heated shot. Try running the machine without a capsule into your empty cup, then empty the hot water and make your coffee as usual. If this doesn’t seem to fix the issue, try descaling the machine (refer to cleaning instructions in your manual). If the problem persists please contact your machine provider.

3. Only water is coming out of the machine, no coffee.

Please check to make sure the capsule is situated in the machine correctly (foil lid facing towards the front, where coffee will come out). Following this, try flushing the system (refer to manual). We then recommend contacting your machine manufacturer for alternate solutions.

4. The coffee doesn’t seem to run for very long.

(A) Try checking that there is enough water in the tank. If the water levels are accurate, try flushing the system (refer to machine manual). It’s important to note that if one of the buttons has been held down for too long it may affect the machine settings. Refer to your manual for instructions on how to re-set the functions.

5. The coffee seems to be running for too long.

(A) Try flushing the system (refer to machine manual). If the problem persists, try descaling the machine (refer to machine manual for instructions). It’s important to note that if one of the buttons has been held down too long it may affect the machine settings. Refer to your manual for instructions on how to re-set the functions.

6. The capsule won’t eject.

(A) Please make sure that the capsule bin is empty. Following this, check to ensure the new capsule has been placed correctly (foil lid facing towards the front, where coffee will come out).
