Daily Grind Brings In-Laws Together
It’s not every day that you happily go to work with your mother-in-law but for Jason Meares it’s just another day at the ‘office’, as this family opens the latest Zarraffa’s Coffee drive thru at Yamanto in Ipswich, QLD.
The new store is the 75th for the Australian-owned specialty coffee franchise, located at 422-428 Warwick Rd Yamanto, and will be operated in a partnership between Jason’s wife Leah, her brother Corey, wife Aneka and Leah’s parents Deslee and Jeff.
With Leah on maternity leave with their first child Layla, Jason and Deslee will work side-by-side in the new drive thru site, which is in addition to the family’s first store located in Loganlea, combatting the stereotype that ‘in-laws’ don’t get along.
“It’s not your typical working partnership,” joked Jason, who believes the key to any good working relationship is to keep your sense of humour every day.
“I’m lucky in that I have a great respect for Deslee and Jeff, and we are all used to working together at the Loganlea store,” he said.
“It is a real family affair and one that means we are able to tackle things sometimes with more honesty.”
The family opened Loganlea in 2012, with a strong belief in the coffee franchise’s business model.
“We’ve enjoyed such great support since opening and are keen to commence trading at the new Yamanto store to deliver convenient and great coffee to Ipswich and surrounds,” said Deslee.
Zarraffa’s CEO Kenton Campbell said the Davis family and their store growth are a great example of what the specialty coffee brand is able to deliver to franchise owners.
“Multi-site ownership makes up a large part of our company now, with our franchisees seeing the benefit of owning additional stores, through a greater understanding of the market and our operation, to deliver returns.”
“I take great pleasure in seeing our franchisees reach their financial goals, through new stores, while providing our coffee to a larger number of customers, in more convenient locations, every day.”
Deslee summed up the greatest win the experience has given them.
“I get to spend my days with family and our great team of baristas, knowing we are building a future for three generations…even if that means I have to buck tradition and get along with my son-in-law!”
