ZARRAFFA’S COFFEE welcomes smithfield to the herd in cairns
The Cairns region is set to welcome its fourth Zarraffa’s Coffee location, bringing the brand’s specialty coffee convenience to the northside for the first time with a new drive thru site opening in Smithfield today.
The new store will be operated by seasoned Franchisees Paul and Jo Brierley, who have been part of the Zarraffa’s family for more than 12 years, growing from one store to four across the region.
The couple opened their first Zarraffa’s store at Cairns Showground in September 2014, followed by Edmonton in July 2018 and Manunda in November 2024, with Smithfield marking their next chapter of growth in Far North Queensland.
Zarraffa’s Coffee CEO Marnie Sheldon said the Smithfield opening reflects the strength of the brand’s franchise model and the Brierley’s longstanding commitment to the Cairns community.
“Paul and Jo represent everything Zarraffa’s stands for. A genuine passion for coffee, an unwavering commitment to their community and the kind of consistency that builds loyal customers for life,” said Marnie.
“Over more than a decade, they have grown from one store to four in Cairns and their northside customers have been waiting a long time for this. We couldn’t think of better operators to bring the Zarraffa’s experience to Smithfield.”
The new drive thru has been driven by customer demand, with many locals asking for years when Zarraffa’s would open in the area.
“Regular customers of our existing stores have been asking us for many years, wondering when we will come to the northside, so this store is for them,” Franchisee Paul Brierley said.
“They already know us and we have that existing connection with them. We love seeing our regular customers every day, putting a smile on their face, being able to make their day, and now we will be just that little bit closer.”
The new store is positioned in a prime location equipped to serve the Smithfield community, greater Cairns area and surrounds, with convenient access for commuters and locals alike.
Combining the speed and convenience of the brand’s innovative drive thru model, the full-service store offers large traffic capacity and seamless flow, ideal for busy mornings and on-the-go coffee lovers. Featuring an internal cafe setting, the larger format store offers locals the option to sit down and stay for a while to enjoy the full menu of quality barista-crafted coffee and food pairings.
Creating local employment opportunities for up to 30 new hires through a dedicated recruitment and training program, the Smithfield location will be supported by experienced staff and familiar faces from the Brierley’s existing stores helping to deliver a seamless customer experience from day one.
Franchisees, Jo and Paul now employ 120 staff across the community, contributing to the Cairns economy and providing opportunities for locals.
Customers can expect our renowned range of signature coffee blends, along with a selection of complementary food options, including the freshly baked in store range at the new Smithfield store.
