Celebrating World Wildlife Day

It’s World Wildlife Day!

A day to celebrate our nation’s icons and to learn more about how we can better protect the wildlife that make Australia so unique.

From our own backyards to the bush beyond, Australia is home to incredible species found nowhere else in the world. What a privilege and what a responsibility we all share in protecting them.

At Zarraffa’s, coffee has always been about more than what’s in the cup. Supporting wildlife and their environments has been part of our story for more than a decade.

Through our work with Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors and with the ongoing support of our customers, we’re proud to play our role in protecting Australia’s native wildlife and caring for animals in need.

Last year alone, 13,000 animals were admitted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for life-saving treatment and since opening in 2004, over 155,000 animals have received expert care.

At the heart of that work are stories like Leslie’s.

Leslie’s journey back to the wild 🐾

Leslie, the Koala, was brought to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after being struck by a train more than ten hours away, suffering severe injuries including skull fractures and multiple other traumatic wounds.

From the moment he arrived, the dedicated Wildlife Warriors Veterinary team provided round-the-clock intensive care managing his pain, monitoring his condition and giving him every chance to heal.

Over the weeks that followed, Leslie slowly regained his strength and coordination, gradually moving more confidently around his enclosure. As his condition improved, his treatment and rehabilitation were adjusted to match his progress. Eventually, he began climbing again a powerful milestone that signalled he was ready for the next step.

Thanks to the quick response of wildlife rescuers and the tireless commitment of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital team, Leslie made a full recovery and was safely released back home, into the wild!

Stories like Leslie’s are a powerful reminder of why this work matters and how continued community support makes these life-saving recoveries possible.

Together, we can continue making a lasting difference for Australia’s wildlife  - one cup at a time.
