Rapid South East Queensland Growth Sets Tone for 2018

Zarraffa’s Coffee has spent the first quarter of 2018 delivering on its promise of more Queensland stores, on the back of staking its claim in the NSW market late last year.

As a result of Area Developer deals struck in both New South Wales and Western Australia, and another 15 stores set to open across these key territories and Queensland this year, the Australian-owned specialty coffee provider is poised to increase its national footprint by almost a third by the end of 2018.

Kicking off the advance is a cluster of South East Queensland drive thru stores.

Two new Brisbane suburban sites, Augustine Heights in late January, followed by Redbank Plains last week, will be chased by a northern Gold Coast site, Pimpama also opening this week also (store opens on Monday 5th March)  and will create even more convenient options for coffee lovers.

“It’s an incredible way to ring in the New Year,” said Managing Director Kenton Campbell. “A number of stores set to open this year have previously been sidelined due to delays outside of our control and we are thrilled to be able to start opening doors in 2018.”

While both Augustine Heights and Redbank Plains will be corporately run, long-time franchisees – brother and sister team, Bruce Fullerton and Elissa Hutton – will operate the Pimpama store, adding to their existing franchise holdings in Upper Coomera and Riverlakes.

“Bruce and Elissa have been with us since 2007 and are a prime example of what a lot of hard work, tempered by excellent service and steady, and planned growth can achieve.”

Keeping it in the family, Bruce and Elissa will be joined by Elissa’s husband Chris, who will take on an Area Manager role for their three stores.

“Chris has lived and breathed our Zarraffa’s journey to date and with the introduction of the third store we are needed to have an Area Manager and Chris was the perfect fit,” said Bruce.

Zarraffa’s celebrates 21 years in retail this year and, said Mr Campbell, is still a family of businesses.

“We are starting to see 2nd and 3rd generations of franchisees coming through; kids who have grown up watching their parents make coffee. My eldest son Vaughn is one of them and it is truly a point of pride that this business can support the livelihoods of so many others.”

With Area Developers in place, Mr Campbell believes the opportunities for new franchisees is only contingent on their ability to follow the system, a dedicated work ethic and the availability of locations.

“Franchising creates a lot of benefits for people ready to run their own business and takes away a lot of the risk and strain associated with creating something from scratch,” he said.

“Here at Zarraffa’s we have built a franchise system that is robust, it is supportive, and consultative but it is still incredibly hard work, day in and out.”

“That’s what makes me so proud of our franchisees and our staff – many of them waking up in the small hours to serve exceptional coffee from 5am to 10pm daily.”

“I know what it takes for them to build a business; and to go on to grow to two, three or four stores, requires incredible dedication and I’m thankful for their time and reinvestment in our brand.”
